Inspired by Radiolab's recent Desperately Seeking Symmetry episode, I decided to try out a day with my part on the opposite side of my head from normal. ( Left photo: Regular part - Right photo: ** Opposite part). After an uncomfortable 5 hours and a few self portrait shots for examination, I decided I'd had it right the first time and swished myself back to normal.

In passing, I was stopped by this oil painting by Gary Ruddell. I found it so pleasantly strange. Realistic yet surreal with just the right amount of tension. Later, after looking him up, I was and wasn't surprised to learn that he's an American painter best known for his cover paintings for works of science fiction and fantasy literature. Interesting..

Today I stopped by one of the many galleries on my way to work and got a kick out of seeing Simon Evan's Shitty Heaven exhibit. His mixed media collages portray visions of the 'other world' as a planned suburban community. A 'dystopic heaven where "things just happen and people blow apart." Allllllrriiiggghhttyyyy then Simon. Maps, flowcharts, sarcasm, glue, etc.. I'm in..

If you ever want to see excitement and indecision past level ten, put a mound of finger puppets in my face. My lack of cash allowed for only a single kangaroo buy, but next paycheck, you can bet I'll have one in every color... And if you're into watching grown ass men melt into babies, grab a camera and take em to Flight Club..

Galerie Lelong. Jaume Plensa is blowing my mind with his A N O N Y M O U S series. Maybe you've seen the giant alien head currently center stage in Madison Square Park? Yea same guy... There's a smaller version in the gallery for a mere $400,000 along with these incredible mixed media (acrylic, enamel, ink, etc.) photographic artworks. I'm 50 G's short of having one of these beauts lining the entrance of my apartment. Damn..

As an artist and photo retoucher my hands are my life, so when one of my trusted fingers started hurting on a daily basis I knew I needed an expert's examination immediately. Little did I know that 3 x-rays and 1 MRI later he'd be shoving a thick needle filled with mystery fluid into my knuckle. Definitely an unpleasant first, but I'm glad to hopefully be on the road to recovery.

There's nothing like walking 60 blocks to get a baby dash of a feel of what NYC's urban landscape has to offer. A lot of firsts this Saturday including a tourist friendly wedding at St. Patrick's, a pee break at the Plaza, a dash through Central Park's Bethesda Fountain followed by bloody mary's at the Loeb Boathouse, and an up-close look at China's leading (and currently detained) artist, Ai Weiwei's Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads.

I'm really feeling Gina Ruggeri's work that's currently on display at the Nancy Margolis Gallery. Her acrylic on mylar cut-out technique is definitely on my radar for future project inspiration. The perfectly flush pieces look like they were painted right on the wall and succeed in provoking thoughts of form, dimension, material, and decomposition in the viewer. Well done
